Viewing Student Accommodations and Reviewing Faculty Notification Letters

Instructions:

  1. Faculty may view student accommodations, as well as a copy of the Faculty Notification Letter by logging in to the DSS Portal .

    -You will be directed to the SIU single sign-on screen.
    -Use your SIU credentials to log-in to the DSS Portal.
  1. Once logged in, the Instructor Authentication Page reviews the confidentiality statement. Then, continue to “view student accommodations.”

 

  1. Students are listed by course. Click view to see detailed information about accommodations within the Faculty Notification Letter. Only students who have requested accommodations for a particular course will be listed

 

  1. Viewing the Faculty Notification Letter provides a detailed description of the accommodations each student needs. This letter is also available via faculty email. Accommodations are grouped in categories by type.

Instructor Tutorial: Instructor Testing Agreement

Instructions:

  1. Login the DSS Portal using your SIU credentials.
  2. Click Continue to View Student Accommodations

 

  1. From your dashboard select ‘Alternative Testing’ in left toolbar.

  1. Select class and click Continue to Specify Alternative Testing Agreement.

  1. Complete the agreement and hit submit alternative testing agreement. Do not leave any blank fields. Type N/A to questions that do not apply. Do not include information you do not want the student to see.

   

  1. Confirm that your agreement was successfully submitted.

Instructor Tutorial: Upload an Exam to the DSS Portal

Instructions:

  1. Login using your SIU credentials.
  2. From your dashboard select ‘Alternative Testing’ in left toolbar.

  1. Confirm that your exam was successfully uploaded.

    4. Choose file and upload exam.

    5. Confirm that your exam was successfully uploaded.

Student Tutorial: Requesting Alternative Formats (Text Conversion)

Instructions:

  1. Login to the DSS Student Portal with your SalukiNet username and password.
  2. From your dashboard, select ‘Alternative Formats’ in the left toolbar.

  1. Select your Alternative Formats Preference from the drop-down menu in Step 1. Confirm your preference under Step 2. Preferences will be saved and applied to all requests unless updated by you.

   

  1. Select which text(s) from the list that you require an alternative format. Review the book information to ensure that it is the correct text.

     

  1. Upload your receipt as proof of purchase for any and all requests. Select the file under Step 1 in the form of the original receipt, scanned copy, or picture. Select which course(s) the receipt applies to and add a note if necessary under Step 2. Confirm your upload under Step 3.

   

  1. If a required text is not listed or you have additional materials that need to be converted, submit an Additional Reading Materials Request. Ensure that  allfields are filled out correctly and entirely (especially the ISBN).

Student Tutorial: Renewing Accommodations and Sending Faculty Notification Letters

Instructions:

  1. Login to the DSS Student Portal with your SalukiNet username and password.
  2. From your dashboard find the ‘Select Accommodations for Your Class’ section. Under ‘Step 1’ you will find a list of classes you have registered for. Select the classes for which you wish to receive accommodations. Check them all if you need accommodations for all classes.
  3. Then select, “Continue to customize your Accommodations."

  1. On this page you will choose the accommodations you want to use in each class. When you are finished choosing your accommodations, select the ‘Submit Your Accommodation Request’ button.

   

  1. You can modify the accommodations you selected at later date, in case you discover that you need them for a particular class or activity. The system will notify DSS to send a new letter to your faculty.

  1. Once you have made your request, DSS emails the Faculty Notification Letter to your instructor. A copy of the letter will be located in your ‘Mailbox’ under your ‘Home’ tab.

Student Tutorial: Scheduling Exams

Instructions:

  1. Login to the DSS Student Portal with your SalukiNet username and password.
  2. From your dashboard select ‘Alternative Testing’ in left toolbar.

 

  1. Under Step 1, select the class for which you want to schedule an exam.
  2. Then select, Schedule an Exam.

 

  1. On this page you will Step 1 request the type of exam, Step 2 enter the date and time your is scheduled, and Step 3 select testing accommodations you will utilize.

  1. Check box to agree to the terms and conditions.
  2. Then select Add Exam Request. Please note, if exam times overlap with one another, you should resolve the time conflict with your professors prior to scheduling.
